The Importance of Service and Accountability

As a Junior, I have found that my involvement in the BCM has been very beneficial to my spiritual growth in numerous ways. I serve on the Wednesday Lunch team and with this position, I have been able to connect with and serve a lot of people. It has been such a blessing to see new faces each week and share God’s love with them.

Through helping with Wednesday Lunch, I have learned how to serve others in all circumstances, and that it is ok to not receive praise and recognition for all that I accomplish on the earth. This has not been an easy lesson to learn because as humans we can desire to be praised and recognized. However, I am glad that I have learned this lesson because it has taught me the importance of serving with a willing heart and not because there is a reward that will be gained. I have also learned the importance of accountability. It is extremely important to hold one another accountable so that we can ensure that we are building up our fellow believers in Christ and not hindering their growth. One way that I have found that this is best done is by surrounding yourself with other believers. My Journey Group has been a great place for me to find girls who can hold me accountable and for whom I can do the same. I always know that there is someone who I can call to help me in any situation. "Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving." Colossians 3:23-24
