Hi, my name is Veronica and I will be one of the freshman journey group leaders this year at the BCM! Being a part of the BCM here at UA has made such an incredible impact on my life. Transitioning from high school to college was tough for me because I was being pulled out of the town I had lived in for twelve years and thrown into a completely new environment. I joined the BCM out of a desire to build a Christian community in my life away from my church back home. I knew that my walk with the Lord wouldn't grow if I didn't pursue Him, and God has really given me a place to thrive within journey groups. Having a group of peers who encourage one another is so refreshing, and it slowly but surely helped me out of my shell. I honestly don’t know what I would do without them.
To any freshmen reading this today, know that God is with you. Freshman year is full of new experiences and obstacles, and I've definitely had my fair share of highs and lows. In times of change, I love reading Matthew 11:28-30:
“Come to me, all of you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take up my yoke and learn from me, because I am lowly and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”
Jesus welcomes the weary and burdened and promises rest for our souls. This is one of my favorite verses for anxiety and it helps me to remember that I do not have to carry any of my worries, stress, or fears alone. To anyone considering being a part of the BCM or on the fence about it, I encourage you to stop by for a visit. Anyone is welcome and we would love to have you!
